Due to the 3D Simulation nature of the program, the most important piece of hardware for this program is your video card. We only officially support video cards from Nvidia and ATI and the Intel HD 3000 or better. We recommend that your video card be at least one of the DirectX 10 or higher cards from these companies, but the program will work on some older cards. The best way to find out if it will work is to download the platform for free and try it out. The official system requirements are below.
Windows XP:
1. Right click on your desktop and click properties.
2. Go to the settings tab.
3. Look under the section that says Display. It should say something like "Plug and Play Monitor on X." The part after the "on" is what video card you have.
Windows Vista:
1. Right click your desktop.
2. Click Personalize.
3. Click Display Settings.
4. There should be a combo box that says something like "Generic PnP Monitor on X" the part after the "on" is your video card.
Windows 7:
1. Right click your desktop.
2. Click Screen Resolution.
3. Click Advanced Settings.
4. Under Adapter Type it will say what video card you have.
This can happen for two different reasons. Either your video card drivers are out of date or your video card is not supported by the software. To determine if a driver update will fix your problem follow the steps in the "How do I tell what video card I have?" section.
If the card is an Nvidia card go to the Nvidia driver download page.
If the card is an ATI card go to the ATI driver download page.
If the card is an Intel card go to the Intel driver download page. Please note that Intel video cards are not officially supported and may offer low performance and/or some features may not work correctly.
Follow the instructions on these websites to update your drivers.
For any other video card you may need to upgrade your computer. See our Recommended Hardware section for more information about what we recommend. If you still cannot open the program try following the steps below.
The software is intended to be fairly easy to pick up. The best way to learn it is to play around with it a bit. We have also created some tutorials in our Learning Center that can help get you started.
