The Piper Education & Research Center (PERC) is a continuing education center where dentists can learn about the concepts of TMJ problems though facility and online courses. PERC is dedicated specifically to the promotion of educational standards that will benefit the temporomandibular joint population.
PERC needed a 3D anatomy simulation solution for its slideshow presentations to explain the concepts of Joint Based Occlusion to dentists.
In the past, PERC has used traditional content for its presentations, such as photos and illustrations. Photos and illustrations, however, didn't thoroughly explain the TMJ anatomy and the conditions that effect it. Photographs and illustustrations are two-dimensional and difficult for students to visualize completely the TMJ anatomy. Illustrations were also time consuming and expensive to create.
With Anomalous Medical, students can interact with interacive 3D anatomy models in a 3-dimensional environment. PERC downloaded Anomalous Medical with all the 3D anatomy art necessary to create animations using the Authoring tools. These animations provided a dynamic and engaging environment for learning.
With Anomalous Medical, PERC was able to save time and money on creating slideshow presentations with 3D anatomy software as compared with 2-dimensional photos and illustrations. Students were better able to understand the concepts of Joint Based Occlusion when they they could see the anatomy in 3D from any point of view in real time. The temporomandibular joint is an area with a lot of moving parts, and dentists can sometimes find it difficult to visualize the anatomy in this area to determine what is happening to a patient. Using Anomalous Medical, Dr. Mark Piper has improved his courses, which has helped many dentists enrolled at PERC visualize how the jaw functions normally and abnormally when anatomy distortions are applied.
PERC Recommends Anomalous Medical for Dentists
"The temporomandibular joint is an area of anatomy dentists often find difficult to understand because there is a lot of moving parts and a lot that can go wrong. Anomalous Medical has vastly improved TMD education by helping dentists enrolled in PERC courses visualize how the jaw functions normally and abnormally when anatomy distortions are applied." - Dr. Mark Piper, D.M.D, M.D.
